This time of year brings nasty and unwanted insects into our community.  In recent months there have been issues regarding the West Nile Virus from mosquitoes in the LA County. Below are a few tips to prevent being bitten by a mosquito.

Prevention Tips :

  • Eliminate any standing water on your property- mosquitoes breed in standing water.
  • Avoid activity at dawn and dusk.
  • Apply repellent containing the active ingredient DEET when outside.
  • Wear protective clothing (loose, light colored, long sleeve shirts and pants.

We as a county can significantly contribute to the fight against the West Nile Virus by following the above prevention tips.  We have to remember, if they cant breed, they cant bite.

The California West Nile Virus website is a great resource for tracking any activity within the state: http://westnile.ca.gov/
